In 1969, a crew of Oklahoma construction workers discovered something unexpected. The manual laborers witnessed what appeared to be a massive antediluvian edifice, which they allegedly dated back 200,000 years.
It was first described as a “Ancient Mosaic Floor” in The Oklahoman, a daily newspaper.
According to Durwood Pate, a local geologist at the time, the mosaic floor was laid out in texactly parallel lines that crossed to form a diamond shape.
The geologists first believed that it had to be a natural discovery, but Delbert Smith, president of the Oklahoma Seismograph Company, swiftly contested this, claiming that the entire structure reached up to several thousand square feet and was absolutely symmetrical the entire way.
Surprisingly, the mosaic floor appeared to contain sea sediments, implying that the area was once entirely submerged.
But that’s not all; researchers discovered an iron cup with a coal chink dating back 300 million years in the same location. The formal discovery was made by Frank J. Kennard, who claimed to have shattered the chunk of coal with a sledgehammer.
